Q: Is Northpoint accredited?
A: Northpoint Homeschool Academy is a resource for homeschool families and is not accredited. Parents are responsible for keeping and maintaining their student's transcripts. Our Director of Academics hosts a transcript workshop meeting each year to assist families with record keeping and our online grading system keeps a record of grades for parents.
Q: What is my responsibility as a parent?
A: On the at-home days, we ask for at least one parent or guardian to commit to being present to homeschool their student(s). In the primary grade levels, the parent or guardian at home will co-teach with the instructor at Northpoint, covering the lessons designated for the at-home days. As each student progresses through the grade levels, your role at home shifts to one of a facilitator. You will eventually oversee the completion of your student(s) work, and the classroom instructor will take over the actual instruction. Our purpose in this is two-fold. First, it starts training your student to be an independent worker who takes responsibility for the tasks before him or her. Second, it frees you from having to relearn Pre-Calculus or Anatomy and Physiology in order to teach upper-level subjects effectively.
Q: What is the difference between the 2 and 3 Day Models?
A: Families can choose between our 2 and 3 day model depending on what works best for their family. There are two sections of every class for Kindergarten through 6th grade. One section meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 am-3:30 pm and one section meets on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 am-3:30 pm. Regardless of the section, each school day includes all core subjects for the grade level as well as electives. Students have at least one recess each day.
7th-12th grade students attend classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 am-3:30 pm. Every class meets twice each week and homework is assigned for the remaining three days. Students have the option to add a third day on Wednesdays from 8:30 am-3:30 pm where they will have a schedule consisting of independent study, directed core labs and additional electives. This will provide an opportunity for them to complete their assigned work, utilize directed core labs to receive tutoring, take proctored tests and review content from their Tuesday/Thursday classes.
Our Preschool 3's and Pre-K 4's and 5's classes meet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 am-3:30 pm. Parents can choose between our 2 and 3 day model and also have the option of a half day from 8:30 am-1:30 pm.
Q: Does Northpoint use technology in the classroom?
A: Students are NOT required to have a specific device for in-class days. Our program utilizes textbooks, pens, and paper and e-learning is not a part of our curriculum. We have an online learning management system called Schoology that students and parents will use to track assignments, and grades, take some tests, and message teachers. Your student will need access to a device to complete assignments, write papers, and do research, but we do not require a device at school.
Q: Does Northpoint offer financial assistance or accept School Choice Vouchers?
A: Northpoint is a ministry of Anchored Ministries, Inc and in an effort to protect our program's freedom and commitment to Biblical teaching, we do not accept any state or federal funding or qualify for School Choice vouchers. Our separation from any state or federal funding means that Northpoint is under no obligation to incorporate CRT, SEL or any other controversial curriculum into our model. We focus on high-quality academics! Families can choose to pay tuition in full or through a monthly billing plan so that tuition can be broken up into 11 monthly payments each year.
Keep in mind that we consider our program to be a five-day-per-week model with two-three in-class days and two-three at-home days. This makes our tuition very affordable compared to the pricing of traditional private schools.
We are working to add a financial assistance program through the generosity of families and donors who are supporting our mission to educate, equip and empower students. Tax-deductible donations can also be made by family members or friends and directed toward a specific student. Families who assist with fundraising or securing corporate partners can also receive a tuition credit.
Q: Can students attend Northpoint if they have a learning disability or have received accommodations (i.e. IEP or 504) from another school?
A: While under certain circumstances, Northpoint can be a good fit for students with learning challenges, we are not equipped or specifically trained in this area. Students must be able to conduct themselves in the classroom without being a disruption and must also be able to complete the work outlined in each course description.
Q: If a student struggles with anxiety, can he or she still attend Northpoint?
A: Students must be able to conduct themselves in the classroom without being a disruption and must also be able to complete the work outlined in each course. For example, many classes require presentations in front of the teacher and peers as part of the class grade. If the student is unable to complete the assignment, he or she will be unable to earn points for that presentation.
Q: What if my student has a medical condition that may cause extended absences?
A: Northpoint’s attendance policy is outlined in the student handbook. Exceptions to the attendance policy (a maximum of four (4) days per semester) can be requested through the administration. Upon administrative approval, a written plan will be put in place by the teacher(s) outlining expectations for the completion of all missed work.
Q: Is Northpoint affiliated with a church?
A: Northpoint is a ministry of Anchored Ministries, Inc. and is not directly affiliated with a church. Our program has a ministry partnership with Hope Church for use of the building and campus.
Q: What if we do not have our children immunized?
A: Immunization records are not mandatory.
Q: Where does my student go if she has a free period between classes?
A: Tuition includes a full day of classes for Kindergarten through 6th grade and study halls are not available. Students in 7th-12th grade have access to study halls each hour and can enroll in up to two study halls in their schedule.
Q: Is my enrollment fee refundable if we change our minds before classes begin?
A: No, the enrollment fee is non-refundable.
Q: Will Northpoint provide my high school student with a transcript that can be used for college applications?
A: Northpoint provides quarterly grades that can be downloaded from our online learning management system, but each parent is responsible for maintaining their student’s transcript. We do offer a transcript workshop every spring to assist families.
Q: Can my student go to Northpoint if he has been suspended or expelled from another school or homeschool program?
A: Students must be in good standing with any previous school or homeschool program in order to be considered for enrollment at Northpoint.
