A firm foundation in ballet technique is essential in all styles of dance which we will explore at times as confidence and familiarity is gained. Students will be given instruction on proper and safe methods to attain beauty and artistry through dance for the glory of God. With an emphasis on maintaining their integrity, styles such as contemporary, conservative jazz, swing, and partnering will be explored as well while focusing mainly on the basis of ballet technique. It is one thing to believe something is true, and yet something completely different to know why it is true and even better when you can defend your belief that it is true. If you cannot defend your belief it may end up like a balloon held by a child, too easily blown around and eventually popped by a strong wind (or a mean brother). Our children deserve more than that. They deserve to be confident in this Christian faith, able to weather any wind of doubt.
In this course we will discover the beauty and the intellectual strength of the Christian faith they hold. We will realize that reason does not need to be suspended for us to hold to the Christian faith. We will learn how to think through the claims made against Christianity, to detect the weaknesses of the argument, and how to present an argument solidly anchored in truth. Right now as you read this, there are professors preparing lesson plans designed to separate your child from their faith. Let’s give our children the intellectual tools necessary to weather that storm.

Philosophy is like the ink of a broken pen, it is everywhere. If you have ever wondered if there is a God, why you exist, if there is such a thing as freedom, what determines right from wrong, how do we know what we know, what about science and religion, or a whole long list of other questions, you have thought philosophically. These are questions that need to be answered if we are going to be able to engage our culture effectively, missionally. In this class, we will cover logic, critical thinking, the concept of truth in our postmodern culture, philosophy of religion, philosophy of science, and the major philosophers. All of this will strengthen our ability to understand the culture we live in and the people God desires us to reach.

In this ever-shrinking world, the religions of the world are coming to our doorsteps. We can either present a caricature of those faiths designed to make them look foolish and unworthy of serious consideration or we can take a serious look at them, see what they offer and then compare that to what God has offered to us in his Gospel. If these other religions are presented honestly and then compared to the Christian faith, when our children encounter people of other faiths, instead of being persuaded to leave Christ, they will be able witnesses of Christ, winning the lost. In this course we will look at the major world religions such as Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism, as well as Mormonism, and Jehovah’s Witness. We will cover the main teachings as to God, sin, salvation, life, death, and more. Students will learn how these other religions compare to Christianity on these topics.
